Company History

Dominion Granite and Marble began in the winter of 2001. The founders, Austin Yavorsky and Eric Decker, were friends living in the Northern Virginia area working in the IT industry. They discussed one evening how co-workers were losing their jobs due to a flailing IT industry. They decided to start their own company completely unrelated to their current profession. Austin explained to Eric that during college he had helped his father “the ultimate do it yourselfer” make a granite kitchen. Agreeing on the idea they processed all of the required paperwork, selected a location in Manassas Virginia, researched and acquired tools and equipment, and trained themselves in the process of stone fabrication. Long hours were spent completing every aspect of the business themselves, from initial sales calls, through template construction, stone fabrication, and installation, not to mention the necessary paperwork associated with running a business. This also led to their obsession with coffee. After several successful projects they decided to participate in a regional home show.

In February 2002, Dominion Granite and Marble received the “Rookie of the Year” award selected from seven hundred vendors at that first home show. Due to rapid growth, Austin and Eric designed a fail safe system that allowed them to ensure that every detail of every project was available during the entire process ensuring nothing could be overlooked. The efficient system of endless checks and balances and attention to detail is still in use today. This system allows Dominion Granite and Marble to be recognized as the premier fabricator for both residential and commercial work in the entire DC Metro area.

Dominion Granite and Marble has grown since its inception, but the employees and founders put the same passion and care into every project, and still drink far too much coffee.
